A little over one month ago, as the clock struck 12 midnight and the old year gave way to the new, once again we celebrated a New Year and a new decade—2020! Reflecting on the Roaring 20s of the past causes me to want to see a new Roaring 20s sweep our land.
One hundred years ago the country celebrated a new decade known as the Roaring 20s. A wartime economy gave way to peacetime and economic prosperity that ushered in new technology and mass production. Automobiles, radio, and the first color and sound movies marked this decade. A cultural awareness grew and blossomed as jazz, dance clubs, and art deco dominated the cultural scene. Advancements we now take for granted grew out of this period in history—cinema, television, aviation, and women’s suffrage, to name a few. There were medical advancements with a disease-killing drug known as penicillin. The 1920s were indeed an exciting time!
In 2020, it’s time for pastors’ wives to be bold and lion-like in the proclamation and living out of our faith. Proverbs 28:1 says, “…The righteous are bold as a lion.”
Lions are often called “king of the jungle.” Scripture says, “The lion is majestic in pace, stately in walk, mighty among beasts, and does not turn away from any” Proverbs 30:29-30. Their roar can be heard up to five miles away. Lions roar to communicate with other lions; indicating their location, warning males from other prides to stay off their territory, and to show their size.
As we journey into the 2020s let’s ROAR! Our Savior Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah equips us with His strength and power. We can walk worthy with pride in our stride because of who we are and Whose we are, “A chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Peter 2:9.
Let’s ROAR to communicate our calling with authority, boldness, and confidence. Let’s ROAR, making our presence known as we proclaim Christ and His kingdom. Let’s ROAR to warn the enemy of our souls to stay off God’s territory.
It’s a new day, a new year, and a new decade. Let’s enter in with a new attitude showing the world what these Roaring 20s will produce!
“Be bold, be strong, for the Lord thy God is with you…Do not be afraid. Do not be dismayed. Walk in faith and victory, for the Lord thy God is with you” (Song lyrics inspired by Joshua 1:9).
