Now that my husband and I have been retired for many years from the pastorate, I find I have become a mentor in some cases, a “Mom-away-from Mom”, a best friend and yes even the comedian. I am old enough to even be a “grandmother” to some and I must say I am blessed to have “graduated” to these roles. I treasure the friends I made in churches over the years – I have a “whip cracker” in my life – someone who does not allow me to ever feel sorry for myself when I think that I am entitled to have my “pity parties” even at this ripe old age! I have a comedian in my life who makes me laugh til I cry. I am blessed to have a “best friend” in my life who I am able to share openly and honestly with — my good times, my joys, my blessings, my sad times, my heartaches. Even though she is miles and miles away from me, I feel I can always share a cup of tea with her in a spiritual sense. Treasure those friends God brings into your life. Each one is unique – each one a gift from God Himself.
